Nigel Howard Adkins was born on 11 March 1965 in Birkenhead. He is an English former footballer and the club manager.
Adkins played as a goalkeeper for such English teams as Tranmere Rovers (1986-1993), Wigan Athletic (1986-1993) and Bangor City (1993-1996).
He began his coaching career working as an assistant manager in Bangor City. In 1996, Nigel started to work in Scunthorpe United as a physio and only after 10 years he was appointed club manager. Adkins was the leader of Scunthrope for four years. On 12 September 2010, he joined Southampton and saw them through to the Premier League after 2011/2012 season. After more than two years at the helm of the club Adkins was sacked at the beginning of 2013.
After a couple of weeks being unemployed Nigel was asked to replace Brian McDermott at struggling Reading.
