Oleh Taran is a retired professional forward and a coach. He was born on 11 January 1960 in Ordzhonikidze, Ukraine.
In his younger days Oleh played for such Ukranian clubs like Dynamo Kyiv, Chornomorets Odessa, SKA Odessa and Russian club CSKA Moscow. In between 1983 and 1988, he enjoyed the most glorious days of his career playing for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Taran led them to two Soviet Top League titles in 1983 and 1988. For his outstanding performances the striker was awarded the Ukrainian Footballer of the Year title in 1983. Overall, he scored 45 goals in 134 appearances for the club. After a five-year spell with Dnipro, Taran featured for Metalurh Zaporizhia, Tzafririm Holon, Enerhiya Nova Kakhovka, TSV Eltingen and Dustlik Tashkent.
Oleh Taran took up coaching in 1997 when he signed a contract with Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih. He made his first managerial success leading the club to third-place finishes in the Premier League in 1999 and 2000 and runner-up position in the 2000 Ukrainian Cup. In between 2001 and 2004, Taran was at the helm of Metalurh Zaporizhia and ŠK Slovan Bratislava. In 2007, he returned to FC Kryvbas and coached the team till the end of 2012/2013 season when the club was declared bankrupt.
