Roy Hodgson, a former English footballer and a manager, was born in 1947.
Hodgson started as a Crystal Palace second team football player then he played for Tonbridge Angels, Gravesend and Northfleet, Maidstone United, Ashford Town, Berea Park, Carshalton Athletic.
He started his managerial career in Halmstads BK in 1976 where he proved himself as a successful coach, winning the league championship in 1976 and 1979.
He headed many European club sides, including Malmo FF, Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers, Grasshoppers, FC Copenhagen, Fulham and Liverpool.
He led the Malmo to two Swedish championship wins (in 1986 and 1988). Moreover his team won Svenska Cupen in 1986 and 1989.
Under the guidance of Roy Hodgson the Switzerland national football team managed to reach the round of 16 at the 1994 World Cup before that Switzerland had failed to reach the World Cup finals for eight years. The Swiss team qualified for Euro 1996 and that was the period when Roy Hudgson got fame.
Hodgson headed many European teams and West Bromwich Albion was the last team he guided before the England national football team.
In May 2012 he was appointed manager of the England national football team for four years.
