Terence Ian Butcher is a football manager from England. He is a retired player, born in 1958 in Singapore, he grew up in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
He began his senior playing career at Ipswich Town in 1976 and made his debt appearance in April 1978. In 1980/81 the team won UEFA Cup. In 1986, Butcher left Ipswich and joined Rangers for a fee of £725,000. As a part of the team he helped the side to win three Scottish Premier Division titles and to become Scottish League Cup winners twice.
From 1990 to 1992 he was a playing coach at Coventry City and then switched to Sunderland. There he was a player-manager as well and having left the team he played three matches for Clydebank and finally retired.
Terry Butcher began his international career with England’s U21 team and from 1980 till 1990 he played for the senior squad, for whom he earned 77 caps and scored three goals.
After his first coaching experience at Coventry City and Sunderland he was an assistant coach at Motherwell from 2002 to 2006. In 2006, he moved to Australia to head Sydney FC but in February 2007 he was sacked. At the end of April he was appointed the manager of Brentford but left it in December.
In January 2009, Butcher took over as the head coach of Inverness CT. In 2010/11 he brought the team to Scottish First Division title.
In November 2013 Butcher switched for Hibernian, but was sacked after failing to keep the club in Premiership.
