The American Samoa national association football team made its international debut in a 1-3 loss at Western Samoa in 1983. Their first victorious match was in 1983, when they won against Wallis and Futuna 3-0 at the group stage of the South Pacific Games.
American Samoa is famous for the largest defeat. On 11 April 2001 they faced Australia in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the match ended in a 0-31 loss.
