The Belize national team represents this minute country on the international scene. It is controlled by the Football Federation of Belize which was founded in 1980. It got ascension into CONCACAF in 1986 and joined FIFA in 1987.
Despite Belize got independence from the British rule in 1980, the team made its international debut only in November 1995 beating El Salvador 3-0.
Though the team has a threatening and high-flown nickname – the Jaguars, it resembles more a minnow for its lacklustre play and poor abilities. The Belizean men have never broken into the World Cup finals or featured for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. They’ve only made a mark in the UNCAF Nations Cup but never advanced further than the first round though.
In April 2002, Belize enjoyed some better fortune and even set one record – the team thrashed Nicaragua 7-1. However, it fell flat on its face after being sunk 0-7 by Mexico and Costa Rica in both cases.
One of the weakest sides of CONCACAF, Belize was ranked 145th in the FIFA world table in September 2012.
