Bhutan national team represents this Asian country in association football. It is supervised by the Bhutan Football Federation established in 1983. Bhutan became a member of AFC in 1993 and joined FIFA in 2000.
The team are not resplendent with some big achievements throughout their history. Being the second-lowest team in FIFA list they recorded their maiden victory in a friendly match against the lowest ranked Montserrat on 30 June 2002. It’s a tidbit that on that day there was a 2002 World Cup final and the match between Bhutan and Montserrat was called ‘the Other Final’.
In 2010, the team made their first ever run into the World Cup but withdrew almost at once as their national stadium wasn’t ready in time to take on other national teams. They have never qualified to the Asian Cup either. Their only major success was during the 2008 South Asian Football Federation Cup when Bhutan climbed up to the semi-finals.
As of February 2013, the team is ranked 207th in the FIFA world ranking. They reached the 187th position in the utmost.
