The British Virgin Islands national football team made its official international debut in a 1-2 loss against Cayman Islands in 1991. The football federation is a member of FIFA and CONCACAF.
The season 1998/99 the team of British Virgin Islands was guided by the Portuguese manager André Villas-Boas, who began his managerial career when he was 21 years old.
They have never qualified for the World Cup. But during the qualifying campaign in 2010 the team lost at Bahamas after two draws on away-goal rule.
