History and achievements
The Burkina Faso national football team, nicknamed The Stallions, was known as the Upper Volta national football team until 1984 when the country became Burkina Faso. Playing its first game in 1960 the team beat Gabon 5-4.
They made eight appearances in the African Cup of Nations but seven of them were finished in the round 1 and their best achievement was made in 1968 when the Stallions finished fourth.
During the 2010 World Cup qualifiers Burkina Faso finished four points behind Ivory Coast who were group winners. The Stallions won three games, beating Guinea twice and Malawi once.
The team is ranked 87th in the FIFA World Rankings. Today Paul Put leads the team. Moumouni Dagano, Amadou Coulibaly, Ibrahim Gnanou, Youssouf Kone, Aristide Bance are the team’s best football players.
