The Canada men’s national football team is nicknamed The Canucks or Les Rouges. The Canadian Soccer Association controls the team. Football in Canada isn’t as popular as hockey.
The team won the 1985 CONCACAF Cup and made it to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, the only one the team participated in, where Canada was seeded in the group along with the USSR, France and Hungary and finished last in its group.
Canada won the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup and qualified for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup, which is a good result as they have such strong opponents as the USA, Mexico and Costa Rica in the region.
Stephen Hart heads the team today.
