The Cape Verde national football team is governed by Federacao Caboverdiana de Futebol, founded in 1982. It became the member of FIFA in 1986.
The team has never qualified for either the Word Cup or Africa Cup of Nations, though the team was close to 2006 Nations Cup, because the team finished second in its group behind South Africa.
The team, known as the Blue Sharks, won the Amilcar Cabral Cup in 2000. Lucio Antunes heads the team and Nando is the captain.
