The Lithuania national football team is controlled by the Lithuanian Football Federation.
In its first game in 1923 the Lithuania national football team lost to Estonia, 0-5. The following year Lithuania lost to Latvia 2-4 but managed to snatch a draw with the latter in 1928. Their first success came out in 1930 when the team defeated Estonia 2-1.
Lithuania became part of the Soviet Union in 1940 and regained independence in 1990 but still wasn’t a member of FIFA and UEFA. In 1991 Lithuania beat Estonia 4-1 in its first official game.
Lithuania won the Baltic Cup twice (1930, 1935).
The team’s most significant achievement was made when the team finished third in its group in UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Valdas Ivanauskas, Marius Stankevicius, Edgaras Jankauskas, Aurelijus Skarbalius are the most famous footballers who have ever played for the team.
