History and achievements
Until the year of 1992 Macedonia was a part of the former Yugoslavia, after its dissolution Macedonia became a member of FIFA and UEFA in 1994.
The Macedonia national football team played their first friendly match against Slovenia 4-1 in October 1993. The team’s first official match was played in the Euro 96 qualifiers, when Macedonia played 1-1 draw with the reigning European Champions Denmark.
The team has never qualified neither for the World Cup nor for UEFA Euro championships.
Goran Pandev, who wears the captain’s armband, is the best Macedonian football player. He made 64 appearances and scored 24 goals for the national team. Currently he plays for Italian Napoli.
