The Maldives national football team is a member of the Asian Football Confederation. It is ruled by the Football Association of Maldives.
Their biggest achievement was the 2008 South Asian Football Federation Cup title. Qualifying for that tournament Maldives were drawn in one group with Nepal, India, and Pakistan. They managed to proceed and in the semifinals they faced Sri Lanka, whom they beat 1-0. In the finals Maldives played against India and claimed victory that was their first ever at the SAFF Championship.
