History and achievements
The Morocco national football team was the first African and Arab team to win the group at the World Cup finals.
The Atlas Lions are the member of Confederation of African Football. Rachid Taoussi coaches the team. The most capped footballer is Noureddine Naybet (115) and Ahmed Faras is the team top scorer.
The first game was held in Lebanon against Iraq and finished in a draw 3-3. Morocco had an impressive win against Saudi Arabia 13-1 in 1961 and its high-scoring loss to Hungary, 0-6, was in 1964 in Tokyo.
The team managed to win the group at the 1986 World Cup finals when they reached the round of 16. Morocco has also reached an impressive thirteen Africa Cup of Nations tournaments since 1972. The success at that championship was achieved in 1976 when the team won the competition and in 2004 it finished runner-up.
