History and achievements

The Netherlands National Football Team is one of the strongest football grandees. The team hasn’t achieved success in winning World Cups though it is the second in the FIFA World Ranking. In 1988 they succeeded in winning the European championship in Germany beating the Soviet Union team in the final. In the seventies the team got the nickname Clockwork Orange due to the color of its uniform, being good at dribbling and showing high-level game.

The team made its debut in 1934 in Italy, but unfortunately it only managed to pass the first round as well as in the next championship. After the chain of failures that lasted from 1958 up to 1970, the team finished second in 1974 in Germany, then in 1978 in Argentina and in the last World Cup too.

In 1976, 1992 and 2004 the team was successful in making their way to semifinals in European championships.

Bert van Marwijk is the team’s Head Coach today. Its best goal-scorer is Patrick Kluivert with 40 goals. Edwin van der Sar is the leader in the total number of games and Marc van Bommel is the team’s captain. In 2011 the Netherlands beat San-Marino with a record score of 11-0.
