History and achievements
The New Zealand national football team is controlled by the New Zealand Football and headed by Ryan Nelsen. It is ranked 95th in the FIFA World Rankings.
The team’s two major achievements are qualifying for the 1982 and 2010 FIFA World Cup Championships though they failed to progress from the first round.
Their first game with Australia was in 1922. The best ever result was shown in 1981 when the team beat Fiji 13-0 and in 1936 they suffered the biggest loss playing with Australia 0-10.
In 1982 New Zealand managed to qualify for the World Cup but the championship wasn’t a success as they lost to the USSR, Scotland and Brazil. After that the team did not participate in the qualifying campaigns for the major championship till 2010. In the year of 2010 they tied up all three matches in the group against Italy, Slovakia and Paraguay and finished third. Moreover they were the only team not losing a single game during that World Cup.
The OFC Nations Cup Championships came out to be auspicious. Since 1973 the team has finished four times as champion, thrice New Zealand finished third and in 2000 they were runners-up.
