South Sudan national team came into existence most recently in 2011. It is superintended by the South Sudan Football Association and affiliated to CAF and FIFA in May 2012.
The team played their first international match against Uganda in July 2012. The have never entered the FIFA World Cup tournament as until 2010 the team existed as part of Sudan and missed the 2014 World Cup as the qualifying campaign was already in progress when South Sudan became an independent side. The same is about the Africa Cup of Nations.
South Sudanese players are often nicknamed the Bright Stars. They play their home matches at Juba National Stadium with the capacity of 12,000 seats. As of February 2013, the team were ranked 200th in the FIFA world list.
