The Togo national football team is controlled by the Federation Togolaise de Football.
The team have participated in the qualifying campaigns for the World Cup championships since 1974 and made their only appearance in the 2006 World Cup. Since 1998 Togo recurrently appears in the Africa Cup of Nations though it has never left the group stage.
Travelling to the 2010 African Cup of Nations the squad was attacked by gunmen in Angola. Three people were killed and several were injured. After that incident Togo withdrew from the tournament and returned home.
