The Zambia national football team has proved itself on the mid-position among African teams performing consistently in the Africa Cup of Nations. Zambia is ranked 43rd in the FIFA World Ranking. It is nicknamed The Copper Bullets for the color of its uniform and aggressive manner of play combined with collective pace.
The team was founded in 1929, at that time it was named the Northern Rhodesia national football team. Zambia became independent in 1964 and that year the Football Association of Zambia became a member of FIFA. Since 1970 Zambia hasn’t qualified for the World Cup Championship.
Winning the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations is the team’s most notable success achieved. Nevertheless the team achieved success in different African tournaments. It has three COSAFA Cup Wins (1997, 1998, and 2006) and won two CECAFA Cups (1984, 1991).
A Frenchman Herve Renard guides the team today and Godfrey Chitalu is the top scorer (131), Kalusha Bwalya is the most capped team’s footballer (100). Christopher Katongo is the captain.
