Aston Villa claim the title of the best youth team in Europe
Graham Burke converted two penalties in the second half to help Aston Villa secure a 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the all-English NextGen Series final.
Despite the senior Aston Villa side facing a tough fight against the relegation in 2012-2013 Premier League season, the successes of the youth side offer the optimism for the future.
Chelsea were clearly dominating the opening first half, but the Villans managed to withstand the heavy pressure to struck back in the second half. With Villa boss Paul Lambert on the stands, striker Graham Burke kept cool head to score two goals.
Winger Callum Robinson, who also shined in the final, earning the penalty, said: ‘We’re all absolutely buzzing, this is a massive achievement,’ Robinson said. ‘To come on this journey and take on the likes of Barcelona, PSG and Chelsea, the best teams in Europe and such strong athletes, and then to go on an win, it is huge for us.’
