Atletico Madrid set to sign youngster Jose Maria Gimenez from Danubio

Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to land highly-rated youngster Jose María Gimenez from the Uruguayan side Danubio.

After successfully passing his medical with the La Liga side, the 18-year-old defender put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2018. Atletico Madrid have been tracking the development of the player for some time, before deciding the player is good enough for pacey La Liga style of football.

Atletico sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero has been particularly excited about the youngster. He said Jose María Gimenez, who has recently been called up to the Uruguay Under-20, is “natural talent, a fast defender who uses the ball well, a good marker and classy on the ball.”
