Betting odds can give fresh angle in season run-in
We’re all looking for a way to get ahead of our fantasy football rivals. Some monitor press conferences, others study expected goals stats and there’s plenty of useful information in blogs and podcasts too. But can a look at the latest betting odds also prove insightful ahead of Double Gameweek 34?
A delve through the goalscorer odds for this weekend’s matches, courtesy of experts at bookmakers.tv, reveals the five players who are considered most likely to score this weekend. Erling Haaland predictably heads the list at 1/2, while Alexander Isak and Ivan Toney are next on the list. Despite both Isak and Toney being limited to one match apiece, their goalscoring form and the weakness of their opponents is enough to earn them a place in our odds-driven frontline.
Of the midfielders, it’s Mo Salah who is seen as the most likely to find the back of the net, just ahead of Marcus Rashford, so a spine of Haaland-Salah-Rashford looks the way to go if betting sites are to be believed. Kaoru Mitoma is given a higher chance of scoring than his fellow Brighton midfielders, while either Kevin de Bruyne or Jack Grealish would complete the midfield depending on your remaining budget.
At the other end of the pitch, it’s Manchester City where clean sheets are most expected, with just the Cityzens and Newcastle priced up at odds-on to keep their opponents out. Next on the list are Brighton, despite their surprise defeat at The City Ground on Wednesday night, while Trent Alexander-Arnold makes the cut more by virtue of his attacking potential, as one of the most likely players to provide an assist this Sunday.
