Bundesliga fixtures preview: Bayern vs. Hamburg SV
Bayern are looking to set the record of claiming the Bundesliga title in March aiming to defeat Hamburger SV and hoping Borussia will lose points.
The Munich-based side has reached a remarkable form in the domestic competition winning their last nine games and conceding just four goals. One of the key reasons for a 20-point lead the team has is the offensive line of the club as Mario Mandzukic scored 15 goals in 21 games, Thomas Mueller netted 12 goals in 22 and Mario Gomez fired home seven times in 14 matches. Overall the club found the target 69 times in 26 Bundesliga matches.
Bayern continue their run in the Champions League and ahead of Tuesday fixture against Juventus the Germans may rotate a squad as Gomez and Schweinsteiger returned to full training only on Thursday.
Bayern Holger Badstuber is still sidelined, while Toni Kroos missed both of Germany’s matches and is unlikely to appear in the fixture.
HSV face far greater problems with the squad as Marcell Jansen and Maximilian Beister are suspended. Marcus Berg, Ivo Ilicevic and Zhi Gin Lam are out injured.
HSV will play defensively in the encounter as Bayern will look to press and hassle the opposition into losing the ball. HSV will play on the counterattack as Thorsten Fink will hope to delay the parties of his former club. Still Bayern will want to march on and secure the title ahead of the midweek challenge.
