Champions League fixtures preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Malaga

Champions League fixtures preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Malaga

Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to secure the victory over stubborn Malaga side in their Champions League quarter-finals second leg, after first leg at La Rosaleda ended in a scoreless draw.

Despite dominating the game from the starting to final whistle, Dortmund failed to convert the chances into goals. Mario Goetze in particular has underperformed, missing three golden opportunities to bring the German giants a precious away goal. All in all Klopp’s side, the only team which is yet to suffer the defeat in Champions League this season, will try to be as composed as it is possible in front of goal and do just enough to see of the challenge of the resilient Spanish side.

Meanwhile Malaga need to deliver their best if they are to progress to the next round and continue impressive debut Champions League campaign.

Borussia Dortmund recent form:

Although Dortmund missed out on Bundesliga title this season, they are confident to finish the season strong and qualify to the Champions League from the second spot.

They managed to come from two goals behind and beat Augsburg 4-2 in their latest Bundesliga game with young striker Julian Schieber scoring a brace, which will certainly have a strong morale-lifting effect on the team.

The Germans are considered to be the sure-fire favourites to win the game, after the brilliant attacking display delivered against Shakhtar Donetsk. It is necessary to mention Dortmund progressed to the knockout stage from the first place of Death Group, outplaying Real Madrid and Man City.

Borussia Dortmund team news:

Borussia will be happy to enter the second leg of their Champions League tie without serious injury concerns. Mats Hummels, who was not fit enough to take part in Bundesliga clash against Augsburg on Saturday, is likely to recover for the game against Malaga.

Malaga team news:

Iturra and Weligton have been suspended due to yellow cards accumulation.

Pellegrini has rested a lot of key players for the game against Real Sociedad, and Joaquin, Isco, Toulalan and Saviola are likely to start ahead of Portillo, Sanchez, Morales and Fernandez.

Malaga recent form:

Malaga suffered 4-2 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad in their latest La Liga game. Another event which will have an adverse effect on the team is the death of Pellegrini’s father.

It is to be recalled that Malaga managed to outstrip Milan, Anderlecht and Zenit at the group stage and eliminate Porto in the last-16 round.
