Champions League preview: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund
After suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat from Borussia Dortmund in Germany in their Champions League semi-final first leg, Real Madrid will be hoping to overturn a three-goal deficit at Santiago Bernabeu. This will be a tough task, if Robert Lewandowski retains his magnificent goal scoring form.
Real Madrid recent form:
Despite fielding a weakened side, Real Madrid have beaten Atletico Madrid 2-1 by courtesy of Di Maria’s brace.
Borussia Dortmund recent form:
Klopp has made considerable changes to the side that demolished Real Madrid 4-1 at Westfalenstadion for the Bundesliga clash against Fortuna Düsseldorf, and yet, the Dortmund have comfortably outplayed the hosts 2-1.
Real Madrid team news:
Arbeloa is expected to start after serving his suspension for the first leg, while Pepe will again be benched with Ramos and Varane featuring in the heart of Real Madrid defense.
Di Maria is set to start on the wing, after his impressive performance in La Liga clash against Atletico Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to shake off his thigh injury and make the XI.
Jose Mourinho is likely to partner Higuain with Benzema up front.
Borussia Dortmund team news:
Juergen Klopp is likely to stick to the side that secured an impressive victory over La Liga giants in Germany. Lukasz Piszczek has been a major doubt for the forthcoming game as he is recovering from a groin injury however he is expected to recover just in time to play against Spaniards. Schmelzer, Subotic and Hummels will start at the back.
Schieber, Leitner, Kirch, Santana, Langerak and Julian who took part in Borussia 2-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf will be dropped in favour of more familiar faces.
