Champions League results: PSG 2-2 Barcelona

Blaise Matuidi scored deep into the stoppage time to hold Barca to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Champions League last-8 first leg at the Parc des Princes.

The French side stuck to a master plan prepared by Carlo Ancelotti to withstand the tiki-taka and their disciplined approach has almost made a difference. However it was magical Messi who has broken the deadlock with a deftly executed volley from marvelous Dani Alves’ pass in the 38th minute. Ibrahimovic leveled the scoring with a tap-in after Valdes denied Thiago Silva’s header in the 79th minute. Xavi converted the penalty, awarded for Sirigu’s foul on Sanchez, in the 89th minute. And yet PSG were not going to give up with Blaise Matuidi’s deflected shot leaking through Victor Valdes right at the death.

Despite putting in a somewhat below-par performance by their usual high standards and the frustrating final score, Barca are still very much in control of the tie with two away goals. However the bad news is that Mascherano is set to miss the second leg due to serious knee problem, while Messi remains a major doubt after damaging his hamstring. Meanwhile PSG Blaise Matuidi is suspended for a forthcoming visit to Camp Nou.
