Europa League last-16 results: Chelsea 3-1 Steaua Bucharest
Steaua failed to cause an upset at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea coasted to an expected 3-1 victory with the unlikely hero Torres scoring the match-winning goal in the 71st minute of the game.
Chelsea took the lead in the 34th minute by courtesy of Mata’s goal. However Steaua leveled the scoring seconds before the half-time to give the Romanian side 2-1 aggregate lead, as they have beaten the Blues 1-0 in the first leg of a tie. John Terry restored Chelsea’s lead with a header from Mata’s delivery in the 58th minute, while Torres completed the rout with a low strike in the corner of the net in the 71st minute.
Despite Torres missing the penalty with 5 minutes to go, Chelsea never looked like losing. They dominated the possession in the second half and fully deserved their win to progress to the next stage of the Europa League.
