Europa League last-16 results: Newcastle 1-0 Anzhi Makhachkala

Newcastle have made it into the Europa league last-8 round after Papis Cisse headed the winner in the dying stages of the game.

The Magpies have done just enough to secure the two-legged victory over the 10-man Anzhi. Although the resolute Russian side has created several chances early on, they were unable to convert them into goals. Things went gloomier for Anzhi as Carcela-Gonzalez has earned an early bath for a second yellow in the 54th minute of the game.

Despite the numerical advantage, the Toons over and again failed to test opposition’s keeper due to some impressive defensive display delivered by a Russian side. However striker Papis Cisse managed to finally breakdown Anzhi side, scoring the only goal of the game in the added time to record Newcastle 1-0 aggregate win.
