Europa League results: Rubin 3-2 Chelsea

Chelsea made it through to the Europa League semi-finals, winning 5-4 on aggregate, despite suffering 3-2 defeat at Luzhniki stadium.

The hosts were facing tough challenge of overturning two goals deficit ahead of the second leg of their Europa League quarter-finals, after losing 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. However Fernando Torres, who has scored the brace in London, made Rubin’s task almost unachievable, breaking the deadlock with a beautiful lob just 5 minutes into the game. Rubin leveled the scoring short after the half-time by courtesy of Marcano’s powerful header. Victor Moses gave Chelsea lead for the second time in the game five minutes later with a fine finish after a one-two with Ramires. Karadeniz’s header cancelled out Moses’ goal in the 62nd minute, while Natcho rounded off Rubin’s victory with a composedly converted penalty in the 75th minute.

All in all Benitez’s boys did just enough to see off the challenge of decent Rubin side.
