Europe League results: Fenerbahce 2-0 Lazio
Fenerbahce broke the defense of Italian Lazio with 79th-minute penalty kick and Dirk Kuyt’s last minute strike as hosts dominated for the most of the second half against 10-man Capital side.
Ogenyi Onazi received a red card three minutes after the break and from that moment on the Turks took the initiative in the fixture. The Istanbul-based side created a number of chances, but it was Webo who opened the score converting the penalty kick after Stefan Radu had handled in the area. Kuyt bagged the second one and left Serie A side with plenty of work to do in the home leg in Rome.
Vladimir Petkovic admitted after the game that his team faces a difficult task in order to qualify to the semi-finals of the Europe League.
“The result can be overturned as Fenerbahce will not play in front of a crowd. I don’t think playing behind closed doors in the second leg will affect us. We must fight against all odds,” claimed the manager.
