FA Cup semi-final results: Man City 2-1 Chelsea

FA Cup semi-final results: Man City 2-1 Chelsea

Sergio Aguero scored a brilliant header to sink Chelsea 2-1 in a thrilling FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The game between Man City and Chelsea was well worth FA Cup final, as both teams have delivered their best and fully deserved to get their hands on the cup. With the disgusting scenes of violence marring Saturday’s Tyne and Wear derby and the first semi-final between Wigan and Milwall, the semi-final between the fourth- and second-placed Premier League teams was clearly a breath of fresh air.

While Man City were dominant in the opening half of the game, Chelsea were clearly the better side in the closing stage. Nasri broke the deadlock in the 35th minute through a close-range chip over Cech, after an excellent run from Yaya Toure. Aguero extended City’s lead with a stunning header back across goal from Barry’s delivery three minutes into the second half. Ba pulled a goal back with an astonishing volley in off the post from Luiz’s long ball. Sergio Aguero was lucky to escape straight red card for a two-footed challenge on David Luiz.

By and large that was a beautiful game that could go either way, should City’s Yaya Toure not completely outplayed Chelsea’s Ramires in the middle of the pitch. The energetic runs of the Ivorian created havoc in the oppositions’ defense and proved decisive for the Blues’ win. With Juan Mata experiencing a slump in form after playing four games in 14 days, the Blues clearly were struggling to create chances.

Man City will be facing Wigan in the FA Cup final, after the Latics have deservedly beaten Milwall 2-0 on Saturday.
