Injury-plagued Dunne released by Aston Villa

Aston Villa decided to release their defender Richard Dunne on a free transfer, after he failed to make an appearance due to series of injuries. He now will be looking for a new club.

The Irish has been struggling with hip and groin injuries since returning to the club from Euro 2012.

It is to be recalled that only month ago Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert refused to rule out the possibility of extending Dunne’s contract, claiming ‘door was not closed’ for a new deal.

However with the 34-year-old player failing to return to full fitness, Lambert decided not to extend his deal which is due to expire in summer.
