International friendlies’ results: Croatia 0-1 Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal brought Portugal a narrow 1-0 victory in a friendly game in Geneva.

Real Madrid superstar has been the best player on the pitch in the opening half and deservedly got his name on the score sheet after 36 minutes. That was his 39th goal in Portugal shirt. Croatia then tried to attack in numbers, but they failed to convert chances into goals, while Portugal has been probably closer to scoring their second goal when Ronaldo hit the bar.

Ronaldo has been one of nine players to be substituted in the second half, as both Paulo Bento and Igor Stimac offered their players an opportunity to get a taste of international action. One of them, 16-year-old midfielder Alen Halilovic was close to scoring an equalizer, but his shot was denied by Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
