Italian weekend: Milan edge controversial win Over Juventus, Fiorentina leapfrog to the third
AC Milan 1-0 Juventus
Milan broke down their arch rivals Juventus at home on Sunday. But the victory via Robinho first-half penalty is hugely cast doubts upon. Antonio Nocerino should have headed home Robinho’s cross but Milan’s midfielder made an inaccurate shot bringing Juve’s player Mauricio Isla to chest for saving the ball. However, referee Nicola Rizzola sized up the situation differently and surprisingly penalized Isla for a hand ball. It barely could be called a terrific and marvelous penalty that Robinho netted but Buffon slipped up and yielded the lead to the hosts. But despite the Bianconeri ran riot throughout the second half and substitute Sebastian Giovinco even attempted a pulsating bicycle kick, though sending it way over, the visitors met with a balk against Milan for the second time in the season. The match plays much into Internazionale’s hands as Juventus lost their chance to stretch the lead to 3 more points and Inter is the second just 4 points behind the Turin team and with a forthcoming match at Parma in the tank.
Torino 2-2 Fiorentina
Torino opened the scoring via Alessio Cerci’s goal 5 minutes from the first-half whistle. Gonzalo Rodriguez leveled through penalty in the 75th minute but the hosts were quick to respond with Valter Birsa’s magnificent goal just a minute afterwards. El Hamdaoui saved the day for the Viola equalizing six minutes from time and lifting the team to the second position in the league table level on 28 points with Inter.
Palermo 3-1 Catania
Palermo’s striker Fabrizio Miccoli celebrated his symbolic 100th goal in Serie A and his teammate Josip Ilicic scored a brace overmatching Catania 3-1. Franceso Lodi scored the 70th-minute consolation goal for the Elephants.
Chievo 0-0 Siena
Pescara 0-1 AS Roma
Sampdoria 1-0 Bologna
Atalanta 0-1 Genoa
