Lazio snapped up Toluca’s defender Novaretti

Lazio have confirmed signing of centre-back Diego Novaretti from Mexican club Toluca on a free transfer.

Currently the 28-year-old Argentinian is in Roma, subject to medical with Lazio and has been already confirmed as the first signing of Lazio of the summer transfer campaign. Novaretti has been available on a free transfer, as his contract with Toluca has expired. Manchester City were also monitoring the situation with the highly-rated player, but their interest waned after Roberto Mancini was dismissed.

Novaretti revealed he is happy to have signed contract with Serie A side, even though the transfer came a surprise for him. He said: “My purchase was a surprise. I hope to be a surprise for Lazio.”
