Liverpool, Everton chase Ajax Alderweireld

Liverpool and Everton are set to battle for the signature of highly-rated Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld.

Although David Moyes has not yet extended his deal with the Toffees, he has been scouting for the potential transfer targets as normal. The Scot has instructed his scouts to watch the 24-year-old Belgian in action and was to such an extent impressed with the reports he put the player at the top of his wish list. However Ajax are unlikely to settle for anything less than £7million.

Meanwhile Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is also interested in landing the Alderweireld in a bid to expend the defensive options, which will be limited next season due to Carragher’s retirement and doubts over the long-term futures of flop Coates and misfit Martin Skrtel.
