Liverpool target Sunderland’s Mignolet

Liverpool are conducting negotiations over the proposed move for in-demand Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The 25-year-old Belgian is reluctant to extend his deal with the Black Cats and wants to make a switch to a bigger club with a view to improve his chances of winning a call-up ahead of the World Cup. Mignolet has only two years left on his current deal and Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio could be willing to cash in on their player, instead of releasing him for free in 2016.

Despite recent revelations that he is happy to stay at the club, speculations continue linking Liverpool’s number one Jose Reina with a move to Barcelona. It is believed Brendan Rodgers may be willing to sign Mignolet in order to avoid painful surprises and boost the competition between the sticks. However Sunderland are unlikely to settle for anything less than £9 million.
