Man Utd land Atletico Penarol’s Varela

Manchester United have signed Uruguayan right defender Guillermo Varela from Atletico Penarol for an undisclosed fee, to complete their first transfer with Moyes in charge.

United have decided to secure the services of the 20-year-old starlet, after he managed to impress the coaching staff during his two-week trial period at Carrington. The defender will arrive at Old Trafford by the end of June, following the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

Varela could not hide his delight over the prospect of playing for such an illustrious club. He said: “I’m very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world. As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues.”

“I’m very lucky there are quite a few Spanish-speakers here. It will certainly help me settle in,” he added.
