Mancini disappointed with Wilmots' decision to field Kompany
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has openly expressed his disappointment with Belgium manager’s decision to include influential defender Vincent Kompany into the first XI for World Cup qualifier.
Although the 26-year-old Citizens’ skipper has spent around two months on the sidelines, he played full 90 minutes of Belgium’s clash against Macedonia. Kompany is set to undergo a medical assessment ahead of City’s home game against Newcastle to determine, whether he has not aggravated his injury and whether he is fit enough to feature in the forthcoming Premier League game.
The Italian blamed Belgium manager Marc Wilmots for lack of comprehension. He said: “He didn’t play for us for 60 days and then he went to play for the Belgium team,” the City manager said. I did not agree with this. I think sometimes some managers of national teams should understand the situation. This player plays for the club and the club, every month, pay his salary. I don’t know if he is okay or not. One week before the international break he was not fit to play for us.”
