Martin Jol hopes to retain Karagounis

Fulham boss Martin Jol revealed he would like to hold onto services of their veteran midfielder Giorgos Karagounis.

The Cottagers have snapped up the Greek on a free transfer in September. The 36-year-old has joined on a one-year deal, however Jol believes Karagounis’ experience is an invaluable asset to the club and hopes he can stay at Graven Cottage for one more season. Jol said: “Time is on our side, of course, because he will not go for £5m or £6m to another club. But, on the other hand, I do not want to see him go to other clubs. He is happy here.”

Karagounis has made 27 appearances for Fulham this season, scoring 2 goals and setting up another one. The midfielder has settled well in London and is happy to play for the Cottagers. He said: “Fulham is a great team to play for. The club have impressed me. To compete in the Premier League is a joy for every footballer. It is one of the toughest leagues in the world. It is better than I imagined.”
