Newcastle want Coloccini to stay

Daily Mail reports that Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini will be asked to stay at the St James’ Park at least until summer despite his intention to return to Argentina.

The 30-year-old defender has informed Newcastle hierarchy about his desire to be back to Argentina in order to join his childhood club San Lorenzo. Main reason behind Coloccini’s willingness to leave the club is the illness of his wife residing in Argentina. Although Magpies management is generally sympathetic with Coloccini’s ‘personal issues’ it is reluctant to let their expensive asset leave.

Coloccini is considered an indispensable first-team player at St James’ Park and currently has more than three years left on his £8 million contract.

San Lorenzo said they cannot afford to pay a transfer fee for Coloccini, however they are ready to offer him a lucrative contract.
