Pique urges Thiago to stay at Barcelona, despite interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich

Gerard Pique urged his teammate Thiago Alcantara, who scored a marvelous hat-trick in European U21 Championship, to remain at Camp Nou, despite the interest from European heavyweights like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Thiago Alcantara put in a man-of-the-match performance in Spains’ 4-2 thrashing of Italy in European U21 Championship final and looked lovely throughout the whole tournament. Barcelona hope the player continues his development at the club however the player wants to be more involved into the first-team, while his number of first-team appearances this season has been limited because of wonderful form of Iniesta and Xavi. He has made just 15 first-team outings.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are prepared to offer the player the stage his talent deserves, but Pique insists the 22-year-old Spaniard should remain patient and wait for a chance to shine at the Camp Nou.

He said: “There is a possibility that he could leave but we have to convince him that the best place for him is Barcelona. Players in his position like Xavi were patient and they ended up defining an era.”
