Premier League fixtures preview: Wigan - Tottenham
Wigan are hosting in-form Tottenham in what could be the decisive game for their struggle against relegation this season, as they are sitting in the 18th place, 3 points behind Aston Villa, but have a game in hand. The Spurs, in turn, are hoping to secure the victory to outstrip third-placed Arsenal in their chase for the Champions League spot.
Wigan team news:
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez faces selection headache, as several key defenders are sildelined through injuries.
Ivan Ramis is on team’s long-term, injury list after sustaining anterior cruciate ligament injury. Antolin Alcaraz is set to miss the clash due to hamstring injury, picked up during Wigan’s defeat at the hands of West Ham. Roberto Martinez is likely to play Maynor Fegeroa in defence, while Jean Beausejour will be moved to left wing back position.
Midfielder Ben Watson has broken the leg and will be out for the remainder of the season.
Tottenham team news:
Andre Villas-Boas is likely to include Jermain Defoe over Emmanuel Adebayor as the lone striker, after the 30-year-old England international came off the bench to score the vital goal in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Man City.
Aaron Lennon remains a major doubt and could start from the bench, with Dempsey continuing fulfilling his duties on the right wing.
Younes Kaboul (thigh) and William Gallas (calf) are the only serious injury concerns for the Spurs boss.
