Premier League Matchday 32 results: West Bromwich Albion 1-2 Arsenal

Arsenal battled to a crucial 2-1 victory over West Bromwich at the Hawthorns, despite Mertesacker’s sending off in the 70th minute.

Tomas Rosicky’s two goals earned the experienced midfielder a man of the match award. Czech opened the scoring with a close-range header from Gervinho’s delivery in the 20th minute. Rosicky added his second of the game with a goal from rebound, five minutes into the second half. Arsenal’s comfortable position has been put under the question, as Mertesacker earned an early shower for a late challenge on Long in the penalty area. Morrison has converted the penalty to give WBA a glimmer of hope with 30 minutes to go. The home side has created numerous chances in the closing minutes, but Lukaku and Morrison failed to convert them into the goals.

The result allowed Arsenal move to within two points of fourth-placed Tottenham in their chase of top four finish. “Tomas was fantastic, he is an important player for us. Unfortunately he was out injured for a long time, but every year he gives us a push at the end of the season. I hope he finishes his career with us. I rate him that highly.”
