Premier League results: Sunderland 1-1 Stoke City
10-man Sunderland came from goal behind to hold stubborn Stoke to a 1-1 draw in a game that the Black Cats could have won.
Walters got Stoke off to a flying goal with a tap-in after his header has been blocked on the line by Graham in the 9th minute. Things went from bad to worse for frustrated Di Canio’s men after Gardner was shown straight record card for a late tackle. Notwithstanding the numerical disadvantage the Black Cats managed to take the game to Stoke City in the second half. John O’Shea leveled the game with a close-range finish from Larsson’s delivery in the 63rd minute.
Despite both sides missing several chances in the closing stages of the game, the draw could probably be considered a fair result. The result allowed Sunderland outstripping Newcastle and Norwich on goals difference. They are currently sitting in the 15th spot, three points above the relegation zone with two games to go.
