Premier League results: West Brom 5-5 Man Utd

The last game of Sir Alex Ferguson in charge of Manchester United ended in a 5-5 goal bonanza at Hawthorns.

Nursing a three-goal lead 10 minutes before the final whistle, United got quite a jolt when West Brom scored three goals in the space of six minutes. The highlight of the game was the marvelous hat-trick of substitute Romelu Lukaku, as Ferguson’s farewell turned into a football farce.

And yet United fans semmed to have no complaints about the final score and cheered both their team and manager and after the final whistle.

Man Utd midfielder Michael Carrick expressed gratitude to his manager for everything he has done for him and the club. He said: “I want to thank him for everything he’s done, he’s done much more than us. It was a funny time in the dressing room because of the situation. It is starting to sink in and we’ve had a couple of weeks to digest the news. We’re ready to move on. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks and there is a new challenge ahead for all of us to look forward to.”
