Premier League results: Wigan on the brink of relegation after 2-3 defat against Swansea

Wigan suffered a major blow to the chances of avoiding relegation after a 2-3 defeat to Swansea in a thrilling encounter at DW Stadium.

Despite playing FA Cup Final in four days, Roberto Martinez fielded all his big guns, knowing that win would see them moving out of relegation zone. Roger Espinoza put the hosts in front with a fine shot from outside of the area right before the half-time whistle. Rangel equalized with a volley from a tight angle five minutes into the second half. McCarthy gave the Latics a lead for the second time with a low shot three minutes later only to see his effort cancelled out by Shechter in the 59th minute. Tiendalli rounded off Swans’ victory in the 76th minute.

The result means Wigan’s Premier League status is all but gone. With the games against Arsenal and Aston Villa remaining, the Latics need a miracle to avoid relegation.
