PSG chief denied Rooney rumours, plays down Wenger talks
Paris Saint Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi admitted his admiration with Rooney’s talent, but denied the rumours linking him with a move to the Parc des Princes.
At the same time chief revealed he is delighted with the speculations linking highest-profile players with a switch to PSG, as this reflects the rise of club’s stature. He said: “Thankfully there is a lot of players really interested in the club, this was not the case when we bought the club.”
Asked if the French side plans to land Rooney in the foreseeable future, Al-Khelaifi revealed that although he is a long-term admirer of the England star, he does not see this coming. “I think we didn’t talk honestly, he is a great player, he is one of the best strikers in the world. I think everyone would like to have him but if you want to talk about the fact, we didn’t approach him.”\
Al-Khelaifi has also played down the rumours about the possible appointment of Arsene Wenger. “Arsene Wenger is a great manager and has done a great job with Arsenal. But he has a contract for another year I believe I heard in the media and so he is I think staying in Arsenal but I cannot talk on his behalf, I don’t know what he will decide but we have Carlo and we are very satisfied with Carlo Ancelotti.”
