Roma Stekelenburg set to join Fulham

Roma director of sport Franco Baldini admitted they have reached an agreement as regards the transfer of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Fulham have been tracking the 30-year-old Dutch international for some time, and have almost signed him in January, but the deal fell through on a deadline day. However it looks like the switch is all but completed with the Cottagers paying just above £4million for the highly-rated goalkeeper, who fell out of favour with Roma management.

Baldini revealed he was in England last week to finalize the deal with the London side. He said: “I went to London for the sale of Stekelenburg at Fulham. There were questions to be answered, but I closed a deal subject to the usual conditions.”

Roma is currently actively looking for a replacement to Stekelenburg, with Santos’ Rafael considered to be a favourite to fill in Dutchman’s boots.
